Tough Mudder Saudi Arabia, Infinity Race, AlUla

Tough Mudder Infinity – AlUla, Saudia Arabia – the first Infinity race in the GCC and boy what a race. I had the privilege to line up on the start line with a literal Who’s Who of Obstacle Racing.

The 10km course was awesome (Infinity is usually a 10 mile or 5 mile lap) – how the hell did they manage to keep ice in Arctic Enema / Ice Bath all day? The weather was almost perfect – overcast on race day meant the overall temperature was lower and whilst the wind was quite strong it again helped to keep the temperature feel down too.

Whilst the course was on sand, there was only a short distance in which the sandy dunes made it almost impossible to run (good chance for me to take in a gel and the views!) the rest was well compacted and suited to running. Lots of fun water obstacles, but unfortunately not muddy (well we are in the desert, we had ice, cant have everything!)

Infinity is an 8 + 1 hour race format, with competitors taking on as many laps within the time limit with 2 laps (20km deemed the minimum distance).

Thank you to Tough Mudder Arabia and Obstacle Racing Media for inviting me out to experience such a race!

Filming is from my own laps 1, 2 and 5 which is why you may see different weather conditions and me in various states of tiredness!

Tough Mudder AlUla 2024 final thoughts

Wow Wow Wow

As an OCR competition, there was the great and the good with Jon Albon and Alisa Pterova winning the race – just check out the results to see a veritable whos who of obstacle racing.

The 10km route was near perfect, not quite a Tough Mudder we know and love in the UK, but still a really great course and obstacle placement. The route was a little up hill to around half way and downhill on the return to the village. Mostly hard packed sand with arounf 500m of soft sand dunes to tire the legs a little.

I was most impressed with the amount of ice in Ice Bath (Arctic Enema) managing to keep it ice cold all day despite the heat.

Village was great and its so fun to see so many partiicpants new to Tough Mudder and Obstacle racing.

Elevation!

What a race - no need for elevation when you have a length of running on soft dunes to tire the legs
