Tough Mudder Manchester makes a return after 4 years. Along with the shedding of the “city / urban” titles, this means that some water obstacles make their way to Heaton Park too.
If there is ONE thing you should take away from these “new” courses, is that you will need a change of clothes and a towel to dry off from a Tough Mudder – this wasn’t true of the “City” courses of old, but certainly is now!
Coming at the end of October (it’s in July in 2023) the autumnal weather made for a cold, wet and windy Heaton Park. This also made for the muddiest course of 2022 – yes, even more so than the muddiest course of Tough Mudder North West.
The course designers used every part of Heaton Park, so unlike Finsbury or Morden Park, the route wasn’t just sticking to “clean” park and did head into the bit of trail and forest that Heaton Park does have. Along with some water obstacles including Augustus Gloop, Hydrophobia, Cage Crawl and the infamous Arctic Enema (which in this instance were on an end of season clearance of ice!)
Check out the video below, but in my opinion, Heaton Park is a great re-additon to the Tough Mudder season and it’s close proximity for anyone in the north west and easy public transport access makes this a must attend event!

Final Thoughts
WOW – what a finale to the Tough Mudder UK season. Heaton Park was the muddiest course out of all the courses, which is defintiely saying something for a “park” event esepcially with North West and Yorkshire hot on the heels. In terms of the heirachy, defintiely over and abover Finsbury Park and Morden Park, but actually, I would suggest it was more fun than Tough Mudder South West which is a classic course with some of the bigger obstalces including BlockNess and Funky Monkey!
The mud did add to it, but the 10km course had as much within it as the park would allow. Tough Mudder Manchester comes back in July 2023, so (hopefully) no mud, but bring the sunshine and I am pretty sure the route, and obstaces will still stand over and above Finsbury Park (April) which is the season opener.
