Bog Commander is an independent obstacle race based near Buxton, Derbyshire right on the edge of the peak district. It has been on my radar for several years, but it always clashed with Tough Mudder North West. Fortunately this year it didn’t clash and I was able to particpate for the first time!
The course was across the owner’s farmland, taking on hills, natural bogs, streams and did I mention hills? The distance was around 7km but was densley packed with obstacles including a short mountain bike course (with kid’s bikes) space hoppers, weaver and the best zip wire ever on an obstacle course. Oh and as a bonus, you could multi-lap within the time limit. Check out the video below for a real taste of Bog Commander.

Bog Commander Recap
Some issues at check in meant that I had to wait a while and this also caused a delay to the start. Hopefully this will be solved in the future! I would also mention at the walk to the car park to the event village is pretty long (and up / down hill) so best take your things with you or be ready to run.
With a fantastic course, elevation and mix of terrain, Bog Commander is well set up as a fantastic trail run. However, add in the densley packed obstacles – some fun, some challenging, then this becomes a really good obstacle run. Worthy of being better supported and I will definitely be back again in 2022.
